Leonardo Jo

Assistant Professor

I’m an assistant professor in the Plant Stress Resilience group at Utrecht University’s Faculty of Science. I’m curious about molecular and genetic mechanisms that control plant development and stress responses. My research combines experimental and computational approaches to understand gene regulatory networks in plants. I completed my bachelors and masters in the Biosciences Institute at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil under the supervision of Prof. Eny Floh. I then followed to pursue a phd in the plant biology graduate group at UC Davis being supervised by Prof. John Harada. Afterwards, I moved to the Netherlands and started a postdoc in the group of Prof. Kaisa Kajala (Utrecht University) followed by another postdoc in the group of Ronald Pierik (Wageningen University). I was born and raised in Sao Paulo Brazil and I’m a son of south korean imigrants and I lived in many different parts of the world (US and the NL). I enjoy spending time with my wife, playing video games and watching TV series.
